about

"Less is Raw" is a single comprised of two tracks from the ongoing Surface Level Freestyles project performed by Reasun and Proseed. Every Friday for the last 11 weeks, both emcees have released an off-the-top freestyle on their respective Soundcloud pages.

"Figure it Out" was one of the recordings B. Isaac and I did with the dynamic (performance) mic. I'm much more used to freestyling in that capacity, as opposed to in a booth. It just feels more free. I love jazzy beats, and the piano sample grabbed me right away. After a long day at work, I just wanted to escape in the music, so I grabbed the mic and started going straight in. At around the 1:40 mark, I saw that the beat was starting to run out, and I was getting into a different zone. So when I say, "might need to extend it," I was being literal. B. knew exactly what I meant, and gave me more space to figure it out... - Reasun

"Herbie Hancock." I gotta give a shout out to the Peters Township Library for this one. Its CD collection is pretty dope, and when I spotted a Herbie Hancock album several years ago, I had to take it home for a few weeks. Fast forward to what I can only guess has been the better part of a decade, and I finally did something with the beat that came out of that library gem. The track was recorded on a cold, gloomy day after walking around my neighborhood. The whole vibe facilitated an introspective angle in the rhymes. It is not only dedicated to Herbie Hancock, but to all the hip-hop heads, emcees, deejays, promoters, photographers and people I've met along my musical journey. I cherish every moment. It's been a blessing. - Proseed
